In the last 5 to 6 years, the healthcare jobs landscape in UAE, is witnessing a high influx of qualified Board Certified, Fellowship trained Physicians and Surgeons across all medical specialties from all over the world, especially from many western countries with established healthcare systems.Physicians from UK being top on the list.
A pattern we have observed among the Physicians who are actively seeking jobs in UAE is that most of the Physicians currently hold western passports / are western nationals, are in the age group of 40 to 55 years and have practiced overseas for most parts of their careers. They now wish to move closer to their parents who live in and around the Middle East or wish to practice in UAE for a tax free income, a safe living space and the sun & beach.
The other common reason for relocation to UAE is the Physicians wishing to raise their children in UAE or the Middle East.
What this high availability of Physicians has done is put downward pressure on the salaries and prolonged the time required for Physicians to land a good job in UAE.
This influx is the reason we see employers shortlisting and interviewing overseas Physicians who already have a UAE medical license. In this way, the employer saves 3 months of licensing time which involves a great deal of coordination between the candidates and the local licensing authorities. The employer also is sure that the Physician has cleared all required exams (if required), verifications and is now ready to relocate.
Hence we recommend that,Physicians who are looking for UAE job opportunities should seriously consider initiating the UAE licensing process.
Physicians can opt to apply for either of the 3 medical licenses or all 3 licenses (DHA license – to work in Dubai, DOH license to work in Abu Dhabi & Al Ain and MOH license to work in Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, was Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quain) simultaneously as this would increases their chances of landing a job interview, broaden the geographical area of their job search, yielding better results for the same amount of time invested in the job search process and they would be able to save time and money on the DataFlow verification report for all the 3 licenses.
We would like to reiterate that a UAE Healthcare license does not guarantee a job, however, it provides a tangible advantage during the job search.
